Zambia has presented its national position on progressive strides made towards disability inclusion. The submission was made at the 3rd Global Disability Summit held in Berlin from 2nd to 3rd April 2025.
\nZambia has further submitted its 2025 commitments on disability inclusions which are designed to ensure that persons with disabilities live dignified and inclusive lives.
\nThe Global Disability Summit serves as a unique global platform aimed at improving the lives of persons with disabilities while bridging the gap between disability inclusion and international development cooperation.
\nThe summit operates as a collaborative effort between member states and organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs).
\nAnd Zambia has endorsed the Amman-Berlin Declaration which calls upon nations to uphold the principle of \u201c15 percent of all international development programs implemented at the national level actively pursue disability inclusion as an objective.\u201d
\nThe Zambian delegation at the summit led by Zambia\u2019s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Mrs. Winnie Chibesakunda also participated in a high-level meeting of the Global Disability Fund, where countries shared perspectives on the importance of ensuring that development initiatives under the fund directly impact persons with disabilities while amplifying their voices in decision making processes. The delegation further engaged in various side events focusing on advancing disability inclusion.
\nThe government of the Republic of Zambia remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering an inclusive society where the rights and well being of persons with disabilities are safeguarded and promoted at all levels of national development.
\nThe Zambian government delegation included senior officials from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, represented by the Director of Social Welfare, Mr. Nelson Nyangu and Social Welfare Officer Mr. Douglas Nyeleti. Others were Director of Planning and Programmes at the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Ms. Inger Mutenekwa, while the Organisations of and for Persons with Disabilities were represented by Mr. Sylvester Katontoka from the Mental Health Users Network of Zambia, Ms. Mary Nkhoma and Ms. Tuzini Nakazwe from Cheshire Homes Society of Zambia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
