The Zambian delegation was led by Mrs. Lillian Bwalya, Permanent Secretary \u2013 Trade and Commerce at the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, who was accompanied by Officials from Zambia Revenue Authority and the Mission of Zambia in Geneva<\/p>\n<p>The Conference, held under the <strong>theme \u201cShaping the future: Driving economic transformation for equitable, inclusive and sustainable development\u201d<\/strong>, convened Ministers of trade and economy, leaders of international organizations, representatives of civil society, the private sector, youth, and renowned experts to engage in high-level dialogue on global trends and policy perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference also included Ministerial Roundtable Discussions, Leadership Dialogues and side events focusing on trade, finance and debt, investment, development and the digital economy.<\/p>\n<p>At the core of the Conference, Members States negotiated and adopted, through consensus, priority areas to deal with current global challenges for the benefit of the UNCTAD Members.<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of Zambia, Mrs. Lillian Bwalya, highlighted the need to develop productive and transformative capacities to support economic diversification to enable smooth, and sustainable graduation from the LDC category. She underscored the need to reduce vulnerabilities of LDCs to external shocks by addressing factors related to trade, finance, climate, natural disasters, technology and health, among others, which continue to have disproportionate impact on them. Further, she encouraged UNCTAD to continue its work in supporting LDCs in the implementation of trade facilitation reforms in the context of the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation and the Doha Programme of Action.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference concluded with an outcome document called the Geneva Consensus which will form the mandate of UNCTAD for the next four (4) years.
