{"id":1159,"date":"2026-07-15T13:57:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T13:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/missions.grz.gov.zm\/geneva\/?p=1159"},"modified":"2026-07-15T13:57:00","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T13:57:00","slug":"wto-general-council-convenes-to-discuss-progress-on-key-negotiating-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/missions.grz.gov.zm\/geneva\/?p=1159","title":{"rendered":"WTO General Council Convenes to discuss Progress on Key Negotiating Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>14\/07\/26 \u2013 The World Trade Organization General Council was convened from 14 to 15 July, 2026 to take stock of progress across the Organisation\u2019s various work streams.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting, which took place in the aftermath of the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference, reviewed developments in several key areas, including WTO reform, budget, finance and administrative matters, the work of the Trade Negotiations Committee, and the Work Programme on Small Economies.<\/p>\n<p>Intervening on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Zambia, Ambassador Eunice M.T. Luambia reaffirmed Zambia\u2019s commitment to the multilateral trading system, with the WTO at its core. She emphasized that reform of the WTO remains a priority in order to make the Organisation more responsive to the development realities and needs of all Members. Ambassador Luambia further underscored the importance of advancing the reform agenda with urgency and assured Zambia\u2019s full support for the ongoing process.<\/p>\n<p>The WTO General Council is the second-highest decision-making body of the WTO, after the Ministerial Conference, and is responsible for overseeing the Organisation\u2019s work between ministerial meetings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>14\/07\/26 \u2013 The World Trade Organization General Council was convened from 14 to 15 July, 2026 to take stock of progress across the Organisation\u2019s various work streams.
