7th July, 2026: Zambia is participating in the 68th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) taking place from 7th to 15th July, 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Assemblies bring together WIPO Member States to review the progress of the organization’s work, consider and adopt decisions on policy, administrative and financial matters, and provide guidance on WIPO’s future priorities and activities, including the administration of the various WIPO unions and treaties.
Speaking on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Zambia, Ambassador Eunice M.T. Luambia reiterated Zambia commitment to a balanced, inclusive and development-oriented intellectual property system that promotes innovation, creativity and sustainable development.
She commended WIPO for its continued technical assistance to Zambia, particularly through the Miombo Forest Honey Intellectual Property Initiative, which will support honey producers in the North-Western Province to develop and use a certification mark that will help distinguish and promote the quality and origin of their honey, thereby improving its market value and competitiveness.
She also welcomed WIPO’s support in strengthening intellectual property education in Zambia’s creative sector by introducing intellectual property training into Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training (TEVET) institutions, helping equip students and future creators with the knowledge needed to protect and commercialise their innovations and creative works.
In addition, she appreciated WIPO’s continued support for the development of Technology and Innovation Support Centres (TISCs), which provide researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs and academic institutions with access to scientific and technical information, patent databases and intellectual property advisory services, enabling them to transform research and innovative ideas into commercially viable products and services.
She further acknowledged WIPO’s technical assistance in supporting the review and modernisation of Zambia’s trade mark and copyright legislation to ensure that the country’s intellectual property framework remains responsive to technological developments, international best practice and the needs of creators, innovators and businesses.
