LUSAKA – President Hakainde Hichilema has been sworn in for a second term, pledging to accelerate economic growth, create jobs and ensure that development reaches every Zambian household.
President Hichilema said his second term would build on what he described as the restoration of stability and laying of foundations during his first five years in office.
“The elections are behind us; the work of building Zambia continues,” President Hichilema said.
He pledged to govern all Zambians equally regardless of how they voted, saying political differences should not divide the country.
The President said the next phase of his administration would focus on growing the economy, creating jobs and opportunities, strengthening communities and promoting greater productivity and self-reliance.
He also called on Zambians to work hard, produce more locally and support enterprise and investment, stressing that Government alone cannot develop the country.
President Hichilema further assured the international community that Zambia would remain a peaceful and democratic country, as well as a reliable partner for trade and investment.
He called for national unity as his administration begins its second term, declaring: “One Zambia, One Nation, One People.”
