Pretoria, South Africa – The Zambia High Commission in Pretoria took part in the official launch of South Africa’s Presidential One Billion Trees Programme, reaffirming Zambia’s support for environmental protection and regional cooperation on climate action.
Deputy High Commissioner Ms. Ruth Dante represented Zambia at the event, which was held at the Pretoria National Botanical Garden.
The programme was launched by South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Bernice Swarts, under the theme “My Tree, My Oxygen – Plant Yours Today.”
The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, community leaders and school learners to encourage tree planting and raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.
Zambia’s participation reflects the warm and longstanding relations between Zambia and South Africa, as well as the two countries’ shared commitment to sustainable natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.
The initiative is in line with the goals of the Southern African Development Community and the African Union, which promote joint action to address climate and environmental challenges.
