Press Statement

QUITO-Saturday 26 October 2024. President of the Republic of Ecuador has accepted the Letters of Credence from Zambia’s Ambassador to Brazil Glyne Michelo, accrediting him as a Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to the Republic of Ecuador with residence in Brasilia.

The ceremony for presentation of Letters of Credence was held at the Carondelet Palace, also known as the Palace of the Government, in Quito the capital of Ecuador.

Upon receiving the Credentials, the Head of State, was joined by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Gabriela Sommerfeld and expressed keen interest in strengthening bilateral ties and fostering collaboration between Zambia and Ecuador.

President Noboa emphasized the significance of strengthening and broadening South to South cooperation adding that developing countries must continuously have conversations about development.

Mr. Noboa highlighted the need to collaborate on addressing climate change among countries and finding a solution to its adverse effects.

He added that Zambia and Ecuador business community must start engaging in investment partnerships to explore ways of working together to increase trade between the two countries.

President Noboa highlighted that just like Zambia, Ecuador has a population of young people facing unemployment, high poverty levels and it was important that the two countries collaborate in finding ways to tackle such social challenges.

After his accreditation as Zambia’s Ambassador to Ecuador, Mr. Michelo gave assurances that President Hakainde Hichilema is ready and looks forward to strengthening ties with Ecuador.

The Ambassador committed himself to the deepening and strengthening of political, economic, social and cultural cooperation between the two countries during his tour of duty.

He indicated that Zambia is seeking bilateral relations that are mutually beneficial and backed by actions.

Mr. Michelo added that both Zambia and Ecuador are facing an electricity crisis because of climate change and is gratified that President Noboa has called for collaboration in finding a solution to the problem.

The Ambassador assured President Noboa that he will engage and mobilize the business community in Zambia to ensure that they explore ways of creating trade opportunities between Zambia and Ecuador.
