Members of the Consulate General of the Republic of Zambia with AURAK administration, 20 May 2026.

On Wednesday 20 May 2026, diplomats from the Consulate General of the Republic of Zambia, led by Consul General Mr Richard Njolomba, visited the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.

The delegation was warmly received by AURAK’s Provost, Professor Khalid Hussain, and his team. The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss ongoing developments at the university and to explore potential areas of collaboration between AURAK and the Zambian government, as well as private sector education institutions.

The university provided a comprehensive overview of Ras Al Khaimah and its ongoing developments, followed by an in-depth presentation of AURAK’s academic offerings. The delegation was then taken on extensive tours of three flagship facilities: the School of Arts and Sciences Media Studio, the School of Engineering AI Laboratory, and the School of Business Business Space — each showcasing the university’s investment in modern, world-class infrastructure.

Provost Professor Hussain outlined the university’s robust and ambitious growth plans, which aim to see the student body expand from 750 to 1,500 within the next two years. He also highlighted the high academic standards the institution upholds for both learners and faculty members.

“The visit opened a promising dialogue on how AURAK and Zambia can build meaningful educational and research bridges for the benefit of students and professionals in both countries.”

KEY DISCUSSION POINTS

  • Summer programmes for Zambian students
  • Academic and research opportunities for students and staff
  • Collaboration with the Zambian government and private sector education institutions
  • AURAK’s growth strategy — targeting 1,500 students within two years
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) currently being finalised

Both parties expressed enthusiasm for the partnership ahead. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is currently being finalised and will be shared upon completion, marking a formal step towards a lasting and productive collaboration.

A DYNAMIC CONSULATE FOR A NEW ERA

The visit to AURAK reflects a broader vision that Consul General Mr Richard Njolomba is championing for the Consulate. Under his leadership, the Mission is committed to moving beyond traditional consular functions and becoming a dynamic force in implementing President Hichilema’s economic diplomacy agenda.

Education, the Consul General has emphasised, is a fundamental foundation for Zambia’s future — and engagements such as this one are a deliberate effort to open doors for Zambian students, researchers, and institutions to access world-class opportunities. By forging relationships with leading universities in the UAE, the Consulate aims to translate diplomatic presence into tangible benefit for the people of Zambia.
